The Secret to Success
Written by Dr. Kellyann Petrucci
When it’s go time, balance your energy for success.
I have a meeting next Monday, and the outcome is more important to me than any other moment in my career. In fact, I’m asking everyone to please pray for me next Monday the 9th. I would be so grateful for any positive thoughts you can send my way.
It’s really a fairy tale that any of this is happening. A fairy tale I’m ready for. Let me be crystal clear: I want this BAD. So what am I going to do about it?
For starters, I’m going to be well prepared. I’m going to know everything about the person I’m speaking to. I’m going to play the meeting conversation in my head, preparing myself for possible topics and statistics. I’ll write them down on index cards and review them. I’ll use a vision board to mentally attract the outcome I’m looking for. I’m going to meditate and pray to slow my consciousness down, and most of all, I’m going to be in the moment during the meeting and present myself in total truth.
But the most important action step I can take to prepare for this important day is to balance my energy.
If you’ve been with me for a while, you know that my feeling, based on 20 years of work, is that the backstory to everything and anything is energy. Your goal in everything you do should be to balance your energy. Interestingly enough, when you do this, something unexpected and amazing happens: Your personal attraction goes up considerably because your energy flows through your body abundantly. This makes you a powerfully attractive force.
You can use this energy to draw toward you what’s important to you. You can even use this powerful energy to find and attract your one true love (find out more about this next week) as I am learning from my meditation guru Vish Iyer. That’s how powerful it can be when you show up in life as a positive radiating force. You become like a magnet attracting those around you.
How do you balance your energy? You breathe your way into bliss. You say positive messages over and over – chanting them, if you will – and you also gain clarity through quiet time and meditation. For me, as a dancer, feeling something on a physical level is essential. So I exercise while chanting positive thoughts, which allows me to feel the energy running through my body. Or, try Oprah’s secret and pray while walking.
Here’s a quick way to re-boot and balance your energy and begin to start breaking down the negative energy around you:
The 4-7-8 (Relaxing Breath) Exercise
You can do this simple exercise anywhere. To begin, sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. Place the tip of your tongue against the ridge of tissue behind your top front teeth, and keep it there the entire time.
Exhale through your mouth, making a whooshing sound. If you find it tricky to breathe around your tongue, try pursing your lips.
Close your mouth and inhale silently through your nose to a count of four.
Hold your breath for a count of seven.
Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whooshing sound, to a count of eight.
Complete this entire cycle four times.
Remember to inhale quietly through your nose and exhale with a “whoosh” through your mouth. You can breathe at any speed that’s comfortable for you; the ratio of 4:7:8 is what’s crucial. The more you do this exercise, the better you’ll get at breathing slowly and inhaling and exhaling more deeply.
Back to the meeting. After all is said and done, I’ve learned to have faith. To give it up to God, and let Him guide me. To understand only so much of this is mental, the rest is purely instinct and intuition, and let it be at that.
Ok, I admit it. One final touch – I’m also going to wear the most insanely gorgeous dress I can get…just to be sure.
So keep your fingers crossed for me! Believe me when I tell you – I appreciate your good thoughts and prayers more than I can ever tell you. And as a way of saying thank you for the positive energy you keep sending my way, I’m sharing a recipe that I think will make you feel good vibes as well: beef or chicken satay. It pairs tender marinated meat on skewers (who doesn’t love dinner on a stick?) with a spicy dipping sauce that will knock your socks off. Here’s the recipe…
